Finland The Naara river offers everything a paddler could want! |
The Naara river canoeing route, which starts from Lake Naarajärvi in Pieksämäki and terminates at Puula Canoeing Centre/ Holiday Village Puulan Muikku in Kangasniemi, is undoubtedly the most fascinating nature trail in the lakeland area of Finland designed specifically for canoeists. Covering 110 kilometres, the route includes both narrow stretches of river passing through broad areas of bogland as well as wild lake scenery in which people are very few and far between. Roughly 50 kilometres of the route is on gently flowing river, while the remainder is on lakes in the shelter of countless islands. The Naara river route is ideal for families and those who have only just taken up canoeing. A good map complete with details of where to find various services, clean and attractive places to take a break or camp overnight, as well as locations offering cabin accommodation all serve to make your journey safe and enjoyable. Not forgetting that one canoe can hold both grandma and the grandchildren. Paddling the whole route at an easy holiday pace takes at least four days, though many take a week to do it. Should your schedule or interest not be up to paddling the whole route, then simply spend as many days as is convenient in the lap of nature - there are numerous points at which to start and finish. Throughout the summer from the middle of May to the end of September travelling by Indian canoe is the best choice. In a kayak it pays to get started before the river water level has a chance to fall too low. Setting off is made considerably easier by the fact that
holidaymakers, having decided to give the route a try, need do nothing more than call the
Puula Canoeing Centre: we handle all the rest - advance preparations, such as rental of
canoes or kayaks and equipment, accommodation bookings, moving cars and people from one
place to another overland, as well as providing tips and guidance of course. ------------------ |
